Grgur Ninski
The Bishop of Nin from around 900-929. He took part in the Church Great Assemblies in 928 where a fight for supremacy within the church organisation between the Nin and Zadar dioceses and Split archdiocese, the Split archbishop emerged as the winner. The diocese of Nin was abandoned and Grgur was transferred to Skradin. As a bishop he was a strong advocate of the old Slavonic language and the folk alphabet of glagolitic as well as introducing this into church services.
A bronze statue of Grgur Ninski can be found in Nin next to the Church of Anselm; it is one of three which exist in Croatia. All three statues were the work of the Croatian sculptor Ivan Meštrović ...
